Tabby’s Blues Box and Heritage Hall, a mainstay in the blues community in Baton Rouge for over 24 years until its closure on November 20, 2004. Respected Blues musician, Tabby Thomas owned and operated the club, that was located originally on 1314 North Boulevard, next to Rose and Thomas Café and directly across the street from The Prince Hall Masonic Temple, then, the social hub of Baton Rouge’s black population. In 1999, the city of Baton Rouge authorized a freeway overpass to be built on the site of the original club and Tabby had to relocate Tabby’s Blues Box and Heritage Hall in 2000, to Lafayette Street in downtown Baton Rouge. Tabby’s Blues Box and Heritage Hall officially closed its doors on November 20, 2004 after Tabby suffered a stroke in January 2004.
