Joe Simien Born

Joe Simien, esteemed Creole Accordionist, was born on October 3, 1923, in Le Beau, Louisiana. He moved to Los Angeles, California in the 1950's where he pioneered and kept Louisiana Creole music alive on the West Coast. Joe Simien recalled how his father "kept two accordions on the kitchen floor" and everyone in the family was permitted and inclined to pick one up and play a little.
