Frank Mendenhall died on Wednesday, February 20, 2007 of cancer in Mobile, Alabama. With one of the most angelic falsetto voice in the Zydeco, Southern Soul, and Blues nation, and one of the few Southern Soul performers to sport his eye -catching dreadlocks, Frank Mendenhall's short but influential musical career had a profound influence on Zydeco, Southern Soul, and Blues music. While he was never "discovered" by the mainstream, Frank Mendenhall's music was, in the words of Southern Soul and Blues critic Daddy B. Nice, "uncompromisingly original, catchy without being commercial--will remain unforgettable." Frank Mendenhall released four CD's on the small Wurst Act label: Sweet Love, 1998, Time, 1998, Hard Times, 2004, and Frank Mendenhall, 2004. Frank Mendenhall is survived by one daughter and his Memorial Service was held on Saturday, February 24, 2007, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1703 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., in Mobile, Alabama. Frank Mendenhall is buried at Whispering Pines Cemetery.
